Are you ready to discover one of the most beautiful cities in the world? Rome is iconic for a bunch of reasons, from historical hotspots like the Coliseum to the friendliness of its people and how delicious the food is.
In fact, it can be difficult to know what to prioritize in your itinerary, especially if you’re only heading over for a weekend. The good news is that we’ve gone out of our way to make it easier for you, and that’s where this post comes in.
And so without further ado, let’s go ahead and take a look at a short and simple guide on what to get up to in your weekend in Rome.
Weekend Insider Itinerary to Rome
Day #1: Checking in and live music
Strictly speaking, your vacation begins way before you leave the house because you’ll want to pack sparingly to save space and to plan your itinerary before you leave. Still, Rome can also be a great place for a quick getaway, and in the spirit of speed, you’ll want to check in once you arrive, to drop off your bags, and then to head straight back out to explore the city.
One thing that you won’t want to miss is the city’s live music scene, where you can expect to see everything from classical orchestras to modern rock, indie singer/songwriters, and everything in between. When you walk the city’s streets at night, you can hear music spilling out into the streets, so even if you don’t have a specific destination in mind, you can just beat the streets until you hear something that you like.
Day #2: Cultural hotspots
Your second day in the city will be all about visiting the cultural hotspots that the city has to offer, whether you want to visit Vatican City or whether you’d prefer to pay a visit to the Coliseum. You can even seek out a local tour guide and visit the city on foot, on a bus or on a bicycle. There are plenty of providers out there and plenty for you to see, so you can even just set off at random and see what you can discover.
Just a few of the other hotspots that we’d recommend include the Roman Baths of Caracalla, the National Roman Museum, the beautiful Basilica of San Clemente, and the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, and, of course, the Pantheon. There’s so much to see that you’ll never fit it into a single day, so figure out which ones you want to prioritize.
Day #3: Souvenirs and food
On your final day in the city, you’ll want to wander some of Rome’s markets and souvenir shops to make sure that you’ve picked up all of the gifts you need for friends and family. If you want to go a little higher class, you can even check out some of the massive retail stores and the headquarters of the fashion giants that call Italy home.
This is also the perfect opportunity to check out any of the restaurants that you might have missed and to sample the local cuisine. Remember, too, that the vacation doesn’t have to be over here if you still want to see more of Europe. One option that we’d recommend is to take a beautiful cruise to Croatia, although you can rest assured that there are plenty of other destinations for you to choose from.
Conclusion
Now that you know just a few of the different highlights for you to look out for during your visit to Rome, it’s up to you to start booking things. Remember that you can often save money by booking ahead, and don’t forget to take a camera with you. You’re going to have the time of your life!
